Did you know that the Glendale Public Library officially became a part of our city government a century ago, on December 26, 1922? We’ve come a long way from our humble beginnings in 1895, with just 400 books in the office of a downtown lumberyard.
Help us celebrate our Centennial as the “heartbeat of the community” with a series of programs focusing on the history of libraries and our Arizona heritage. Enjoy decade-themed crafts for all ages, children’s events, keynote speakers, and much more through July 2023. Visit
gplaz.org/glendale100 to view our current month’s “Glendale 100” selection.
We’re also offering a special 100 Years, 100 Books Reading Challenge with prizes for kids and teens, plus two limited-edition Centennial library card designs! Choose from the elegant art deco look or colorful balloons pictured below.
This program is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
