It's spooky season!  Halloween fun at the library for all ages! Featuring Halloween ComicFest and so much more!It's spooky season! We've got Halloween fun for everyone at the library, including Halloween ComicFest, Día de Muertos, Scary STEAM, Boo Bash, Victorian Seances and so much more! 

FOR ALL AGES

Día de Muertos/Day of the Dead Community Altar. Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a cherished Mexican and Mexican American tradition celebrating the spirits of our dearly departed. The Glendale Public Library invites you to honor your loved ones by contributing to our community ofrenda, or altar. You can add photographs, messages, and symbolic items to the ofrenda. Please refrain from bringing valuable or irreplaceable items. If you need something photocopied or printed for the altar, our library staff will gladly assist you. Monday, October 21-Monday, November 4. Main Library Lobby. 

Halloween ComicFest @ the Library! Get ready for a spooktacular Halloween celebration as Drawn to Comics partners with the library once again! This all-ages event offers a variety of free comics, plus opportunities to meet local comic book artists, shop with awesome vendors, pose with your favorite cosplay characters, and participate in fun games and crafts. Costumes are highly encouraged! Activities will happen at the Velma Teague Library and Drawn to Comics, right across the street. Saturday, October 26, 5-8 PM. Velma Teague Library.

FOR ADULTS

Artistry Workshop: Marigolds and Sugar Skulls. Celebrate Hispanic culture and learn about the significance of marigolds and sugar skulls while creating a beautiful tissue paper marigold and decorating a sugar skull medallion. For ages 18+. Seances, Spirits & Scruples: A Look into Victorian Mediums and Methods. Flitter Mouse Traveling Museum presents an evening discussion on the wild antics that occurred during Victorian seances. From ectoplasm to spirit trumpets, we will explore some of the famous mediums of the time and how the Victorian era invented the art of the seance. Dress up is encouraged. Beware, Ouija boards will be present. Thursday, October 24, 6:30-7:30 PM. Main Library Auditorium. 

FOR TEENS

Ghost in a Jar. During the spooky season, create a small habitat for your ghost friend using the supplies provided. Take your new buddy home and enjoy watching scary (or not-so-scary) movies with them! For ages 12-18. Throughout October. Velma Teague Library.

Solve the Mystery of the Haunted Stacks.
 Calling for teen detectives! Can you discover who is haunting the Teen Department? You'll find your first clue in plain sight, but you'll have to scour the stacks to uncover clues, find hints, and solve puzzles to track down the culprit. Once you find the answer, bring your answer sheets to the front desk and collect a prize. For ages 12-18. Throughout October. Foothills Library.

Spooky Altered Books.
Transform a regular book into a spooky altered book using toys and craft supplies. For ages 10-18. Registration is required.

Batty Halloween Scavenger Hunt. The library's gone batty! Ten different bats have taken up residence in our Youth Department and are hiding. Locate all the bats and get a prize from the front desk! For kids and families. Throughout October. Velma Teague Library.

Haunted Hollow Mystery Window. Can you find all of the hidden secrets in Haunted Hollow? Check out the new display in the Youth Department, pick up a slip, and seek out all the mysterious elements of this eerie town. If you find them all, stop by the Youth Desk and get a scary cool prize. For kids and families. Throughout October. Foothills Library.

† STEAM Kids Club. Kids aged 6-12 can get spooky smart with some hands-on science all month long. Registration is required for each session. Wednesdays, October 2-30, 2:30-3:30 PM. Heroes Regional Park Library Yucca Room.

Bats in the Garden with Arizona Game and Fish! Wildlife expert Nancy Kreuder from the Arizona Game and Fish Department is joining us to talk about bats in the wild and how these sometimes misunderstood critters are super-pollinators and nature's way of keeping pests at bay! Ghostbusters 101. We’re calling all aspiring ghost hunters to create nifty gadgets, experiment with glow-in-the-dark ghost slime, embark on a ghost scavenger hunt, and more. For kids and families. Thursday, October 24, 5:30-7 PM. Heroes Regional Park Library. 

Skelly Spaghetti: DIY Pasta Skeletons. Tweens, ages 9-11, are invited to create their very own spooky pasta skeleton, perfect for Halloween! Friday, October 25, 4:30-5:30 PM. Main Library Storytime Room. 

Boo Bash! Celebrate the Halloween season with some scary cool fun! Come dressed in your Halloween best and enjoy games and crafts for the whole family. Monday, October 28, 4-5 PM. Foothills Library Youth Department & Patio.

Not Beary Scary. All set for Halloween? We are! And we're looking forward to seeing you at our Not "Beary" Scary Halloween event for preschoolers, toddlers, and their caregivers.
